🌱 Rooted in Knowledge: Growing Change with Derrick Luyimbaazi Kaggwa

 

LUYIMBAAZI  

Uganda’s soil is rich with possibility — and so is its people. I, Derrick Luyimbaazi Kaggwa, began my journey as a teacher but soon discovered my mission reached far beyond the classroom. Out of this journey came “Roots of Knowledge”, a space for sharing experiences, promoting environmental stewardship, and empowering others to take action.


📚 Education: Planting the First Seeds


My early career in education showed me that learning is more than instruction. It is cultivating curiosity, strengthening values, and preparing young people to lead. Every class, every student, and every lesson became a seed that could grow into something transformative.


🌳 Tree Planting as a Life Practice



As I taught, my awareness of environmental decline deepened. Inspired and guided by Dr. Dennis Daniel Ssemugenyi, I embraced the Every Birthday Tree Day Initiative (EBTDI) — planting trees each year equal to my age and encouraging others to do the same.


This simple yet powerful act has rippled across communities. With Dr. Ssemugenyi’s leadership, EBTDI has reached across Africa and Europe, bringing in thousands of seedlings, energizing young people, and reminding everyone that small, consistent actions heal the environment.

🤝 Dr. Dennis Daniel Ssemugenyi — Mentor and National Figure

Dr. Ssemugenyi has been more than an environmentalist; he is a mentor, an investor, and a public leader. His work includes
:

●Establishing investment enterprises across Africa, Europe, and America to finance sustainable initiatives.



Driving the Every Birthday Tree Day Initiative as a living example of citizen action.





●Declaring his bid for Uganda’s presidency, setting out a bold vision for education reform, climate restoration, and social equity.



●Objecting to the Electoral Commission’s refusal to nominate him, standing firmly for transparency and fair treatment of all candidates.

Filing a petition demanding an end to the practice of trying civilians in military courts, pushing for constitutional justice and protection of ordinary Ugandans.


●His mentorship taught me that knowledge plus action equals leadership, and leadership done with integrity inspires lasting change.

Together, our work embodies one message: education nourishes people; trees nourish the planet; justice nourishes society. “Roots of Knowledge” is where these principles meet — a home for ideas, stories, and actions that can reshape communities.
